New Players Playing Time
All players participating in the CPHL are here to enjoy and experience all that the CPHL has to offer and everyone deserves to be treated equal. Fairness & sportsmanship are ideals held strongly by the CPHL.
To accomplish this, there will be both a minimum playing time and a maximum playing time per player.
Maxumum amount of playing time
- Within an acceptable variance of plus or minus 10 percent, barring injury or equipment failure.- The amount of 'max time' will be determined by which team fields the fewest number of players. This is so that the attendance of one team will not impact the fairness of the game.
- Goaltenders are excluded in the number of players fielded for the purpose of this rule.
- Goaltenders will not have a max playing time
The MAX time per player is as follows:
# of Players Fielded | Max Time |
5 Players | 48 minutes |
6 Players | 40 minutes |
7 Players | 34 minutes |
8 Players | 30 minutes |
(Note: Max Time is determined by the following; 60 minutes X 4 positions = 240 total minutes of playing time. 240 minutes / # of Players Fielded = max playing time.)
Example: the Thunder have 8 players + a goalie. The Knights have 6 players + a goalie. The max time per player for BOTH teams is 40 minutes.
Minimum playing time
Each player must play a minimum amount of minutes of the game
- Within an acceptable variance of plus or minus 10 percent, barring injury or equipment failure.
- The amount of minimum playing time for each team per game will depend on the number of players fielded by each team
- Every player must play a portion of each period, excluding overtime
- Goaltenders are excluded in the number of players fielded for the purpose of this rule.
The minimum playing time per player is as follows:
# of Players Fielded | Minimum Time |
5 players | 45 minutes |
6 players | 35 minutes |
7 players | 30 minutes |
8 players | 25 minutes |
Example: the Thunder have 8 players + a goalie. The Knights have 6 players + a goalie. The minimum time per player for the Thunder is 25 minutes. The minimum time per player for the Knights is 35 minutes
Enforcement
There will be a dedicated playing time tracker provided by the league at each game.
If a team does not abide by both the minimum and maximum rules they will forfeit the game.
The person tracking will inform the coaching staff that a player is getting close to either hitting the maximum or needs time to reach the minimum.
The league is aware of the difficulties in making line changes on the fly by allowing a 10% variance.
Equipment issues, injuries, players leaving early or showing up late will all be taken into consideration.
