One of the 7 founders of the league. He was a trailblazer who led the way for everyone. Despite playing in a rough and wild era he won three Most Sportsmanlike Player awards. He had a playing style that had both setup man skills and a goal scoring ability. Scoring almost a goal per game over his 127 game career, he also lead the league in assists in 1987-88. Perhaps his greatest gift was an innate ability to make his teammates look good.
*** Played from 1989-90 to 2006-07 & 2013-14 to 2015-16 ***
Always supported and protected his teammates and enjoyed playing that role. A physical stay at home defender with a style that was very hard to play against. Treated the league as his NHL and played just as hard as any of those professionals. A member of the Selects five times including making the 2014 team after a 7 year retirement. A great example of a teammate, willing to do whatever the team needed to succeed. Always put team goals ahead of his own.
*** Played from 1987-88 to 1997-98 ***
Universally respected and liked by all. Even his opponents and fierce rivals had nothing but regard for him. A strong defensive first type forward who played whatever role the team needed to win. A player who’s contributions to the game rarely appeared on the score sheet. He played on six Calgary Select teams, including being named Captain of the 1998 team. A two time winner of the Most Sportsmanlike Player award. A mentor to many on and off the court. Overall one of the sports great human beings.
*** Played from 1989-90 to 2001-02 ***
Had one of the best shots in league history. An accurate wrist shot that could pick corners with ease. His powerful slap shot is among the most dangerous weapons the league has seen. Never missed an opportunity to put pressure on the opponents with shots from everywhere. The sight of him streaking down the wing, ball in shooting position was stuff of goaltenders nightmares. Lead the league in points twice, including a 62 goal performance in 1997-98.
*** Played from 1998-99 to 2008-09 ***
Positioning on the court was impeccable and always played a complete game. A two way forward who was able to play at both ends with skill and a steely focus. An intense competitor played his best at the highest level while on the Selects. The Selects thrived each of the four times he was selected to be on team. A leader who played like a veteran from the very start of his career. Including his Rookie of the Year performance. A sneaky good ball handler with great offensive instincts and passing ability. A well rounded star with amazing hockey sense.
*** Played from 1993-94 to 2000-01 ***
Not just a solid all around goalie but a player with special character. Had an infectious personality that permeated throughout the league. On the court he was constantly underrated, never got the accolades he deserved. Seemed to make timely saves and had a knack for taking away sure goals. His outstanding league statistics would be even better if we had goaltending records available for his early career. Twice named to the Selects, he was an ideal team-first player.
**** Played from 1995-96 to 2007-08 & 2010-11 ****
Impressive ball handling, including a great toe drag, made him very hard to defend and a lethal shot made him a threat to score every shift. He also had silky smooth play-making skills that benefited numerous teammates. Lead league in assists an astonishing four times. A crowded trophy case includes a Rookie of the Year and a League MVP. A relaxed and fun outlook permeated his style of play and helped make him very popular among his peers.
